Gurdjieff Ensemble

in Concert

Verkoop v.a. 23 May 12:00 uur
The internationally acclaimed Gurdjieff Ensemble takes you on a journey through sounds from Armenia and the Middle East. The musicians play traditional instruments such as the duduk, kanon, oud and santur.

The ensemble was founded by Levon Eskenian. Initially, the focus was on ethnographically inspired arrangements of the piano music of G.I. Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartmann. By now, the repertoire reaches far beyond that. You will hear ancient and medieval Armenian folk and church music, troubadour songs from the Caucasus and music from the Middle East, alongside works by contemporary composers.

With albums such as Music of Georges I. Gurdjieff, Komitas and Zartir, the ensemble has received international acclaim. In the Netherlands, it was also awarded an Edison. This was followed by tours in concert halls all over the world, from the Holland Festival to Bozar and the Elbphilharmonie.
