Bijna een leven
An incisive and painfully relevant tragicomedy about love, ambition and the increasingly unaffordable dream of an independent life. Starring Sinem Kavus, Adhem Kouta and Jack Wouterse.
The brand-new theatre text has been written by Vera Morina. Direction and concept are in the hands of Zorba Huisman, who returns to Toneelgroep Maastricht following the success of Longen (2025), once again with a deeply human story about thirty-somethings. This time, set against the backdrop of a housing market that profoundly influences the most personal of choices.
During an all-consuming argument, in which words are used as weapons, their fate seems sealed: Yara and Milo must break up. But her offer on a house has once again been rejected, and his rental contract still has six months to run. Suddenly, separating is no longer an option.
What begins as a practical search for housing grows into a confronting search for stability. As house prices rise, waiting lists grow and certainties disappear, it becomes clear that the housing crisis is no longer just about homes. It touches on identity, relationships, background, opportunity and the question of who can afford a future.
Bijna een leven is a sharp, witty and moving love story about a generation expected to move forward while the ground beneath its feet becomes ever more expensive.
Whether this performance has an interval is not yet known.
