Wachten op Marsha

Verkoop v.a. 23 May 12:00 uur
New York, 1969. In a bar filled with colour and music, drag queens and activists fight for their existence. Among them is the iconic Marsha P. Johnson. It marks the beginning of the Stonewall riots – the moment when the queer community worldwide rises up and begins its fight for equal rights.

The Netherlands, 2026. More than fifty years later, queer rights are once again — or perhaps still — under pressure. Bullying against queer people is on the rise. So is violence. Has anything really changed?

In Wachten op Marsha, a group of queer activists, led by Marvan, plan to hijack World Pride 2026 to draw attention to the growing harassment and violence against queer people. The pacifist Marvan feels the mounting pressure from the group not to give in to what lies ahead. Their freedom must be protected at all costs. But how far should they go?

Raymi Sambo on Wachten op Marsha
“I am deeply concerned about the increasing violence against queer people, also here in the Netherlands. Like the characters in Wachten op Marsha, I hope for a new Stonewall moment. Perhaps this performance can help ignite that fire.”
