Requiem
After the successful tours of Spiegel im Spiegel and Petite messe solennelle, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Nederlands Kamerkoor join forces once again for an intense requiem program.
Dmitri Shostakovich composed his Kammersinfonie during a time of oppression and deep despair: pursued by Stalin and deeply depressed. The work is a poignant and personal requiem, where the pain of the past is palpable.
Johann Sebastian Bach composed his Chaconne shortly after the death of his first wife Maria Barbara. In this intense masterpiece, the hidden choral melodies gain an extra dimension. Soloist Candida Thompson and four singers bring the musical lines to life.
Gabriel Fauré chose a different path with his Requiem . Instead of dramatic threat, it offers a tranquil, comforting view of death. With serene choral sounds and a sense of acceptance, he allows the requiem to resonate as an ode to eternal life.
For nearly ninety years, the Nederlands Kamerkoor has stood at the absolute pinnacle of choral music. From medieval pieces to contemporary compositions: the choir is always seeking innovation. International stages such as Lincoln Center New York, Konzerthaus Vienna, and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires have already fallen for their enchanting sound.
This performance has an interval.
