In Out of the Stillness, we celebrate the creative versatility of NDT 1 with two bold and distinctive makers. We revisit Gabriela Carrizo’s The Missing Door (2013), an immersive work in which dance and theatre merge in an ominous way. Hofesh Shechter also returns to NDT with a world premiere—his fourth creation for the company.

Hofesh Shechter – Tunnel Vision (world premiere)

After the successful revival of audience favourite Clowns (2016) in 2024, choreographer Hofesh Shechter once again joins NDT for a raw and daring world premiere. Shechter is known for works that expose what lies beneath the surface—both within ourselves and in the world around us. The tension between identity and the perception of mind and body often forms a central thread.

In his new work for NDT 1, dreamlike scenes unfold alongside sudden flashes of reality, as the dancers push their physical limits.
"Your mind is a flickering light that has forgotten its source, where thoughts collide and contradict each other," says Shechter. Grand yet intimate, filled with intense physicality and pulsing music, this promises to be a surreal journey that fully draws you in.

Gabriela Carrizo - The missing door

We return to the mysterious The Missing Door (2013), created by choreographer Gabriela Carrizo for NDT 1. Set in an unsettling domestic space that slowly transforms, the boundaries between reality and illusion begin to blur. Everyday actions morph into suffocating situations, where emotional fractures in the characters grow ever larger.

Carrizo explains: “The work shows a no-man’s-land where reality and fantasy become increasingly intertwined. A place where the final moments of a life become visible, hovering between life and death.”

The Missing Door is a dramatic and gripping theatrical experience, and we are honoured to bring this work back to the stage.

Dansdagen Tilburg

Tilburg Dansstad presents Dansdagen Tilburg, part of the Nederlandse Dansdagen. The partners of Tilburg Dansstad (DansBrabant, Factorium, Fontys Academy of the Arts, and Schouwburg & Concertzaal Tilburg) are collaborating with De Nieuwe Vorst and De DansPunt for this event.

We’re inviting you into Out of the stillness, the first NDT 1 programme of the 2026–2027 season. The evening brings together two works: a world premiere by choreographer Hofesh Shechter and the thrilling return of Gabriela Carrizo’s The missing door from 2013.

Out of the stillness is about something simmering beneath the surface – slowly but surely finding its way out. Raw, ominous, untamed and, above all, incredibly gripping.

Although the two works are very different and aren’t directly connected, you can feel this theme running through both in their own unique ways. They explore what happens within our conscious and subconscious minds, and when madness and reality can no longer be told apart. One approaches this through physical theatre, while the other pulls you into a poetic, immersive experience.
