Joris Luyendijk in Calefaxland
Luyendijk has written on a wide range of subjects, from the Middle East and the financial world to social issues such as populism. In this performance, he turns his attention to giftedness. Calefax frames his stories with music by composers including Bach and Nancarrow, who are known for their complex and refined musical structures.
Calefax itself has been at the forefront of the international music world for decades. What began in 1985 with five school pupils who breathed new life into the reed quintet has grown into a global phenomenon. With their unique line-up of oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet and bassoon, they have inspired dozens of ensembles worldwide.
With their open-minded approach and spirit of curiosity, the musicians turn every performance into a surprising journey through styles, periods and genres.
Joris Luyendijk has been active in journalism for more than twenty years and has worked for media such as NRC, De Correspondent and The Guardian. He has written several books, including the international bestseller Dit kan niet waar zijn and De zeven vinkjes.
At Concertzaal Tilburg, music and storytelling come together in an evening that engages, deepens and surprises.
Whether this performance has an interval is not yet known.
