In Voices of the Earth, creator Maia Steinberg collaborates with a group of citizens from the Tilburg and Brabant region to co-create a unique community performance. Together, they explore the central question: “What does the Earth mean to each of us?”

At a time when polarization is growing, the climate crisis continues and social tensions rise, caring for our planet can feel difficult; sometimes even impossible. This performance creates space for dialogue, reflection and imagination. By bringing together voices from diverse backgrounds and generations, Voices of the Earth opens a creative reflection about our relationship with the planet and with each other, inviting the audience to listen, connect and reflect on what Earth means in our lives today.

Maia Steinberg is a singer, composer, interdisciplinary maker, and community artist from Uruguay. She graduated in composition from the Escuela Universitaria de Música in Montevideo and went on to earn a Master’s degree in music composition for audiovisual media at Université Lyon 2. She later completed her studies in classical singing at both the Maastricht Conservatorium and Fontys School of the Arts in Tilburg. As a composer, Maia has written music for short films, games, and theatre productions. As a singer, she has performed in festivals and opera productions across Uruguay and Europe. She is the founder of Project A – A Voice Journey, a company dedicated to creating projects at the intersection of vocal arts and social impact. At the heart of her work lie the values of community, participation, and transformation. Through interdisciplinary performance art, she seeks to open spaces for dialogue, connection, and authentic connections.

After two months of weekly workshops, Maia & the Tilburgse crew are ready to bring their own version of Voices of the Earth to the stage. Throughout this process, the group exchanged collage makings, songs, poetry, ideas and moments of reflection. These explorations now form the foundation of this performance that makes visible — and audible — both the individual and collective relationships that the participants have with the Earth.
