Voices Of The Earth
In Voices of the Earth gaat maker Maia Steinberg, samen met zes andere performers van uiteenlopende achtergronden, op zoek naar onze menselijke relatie met de aarde.
In een tijd waarin polarisatie toe lijkt te nemen, een slepende klimaatcrisis voortduurt en de verhoudingen in onze samenleving op scherp komen te staan, blijkt zorgen voor onze planeet moeilijk – of soms zelfs onmogelijk.
In deze interactieve performance hoopt Maia de complexe maar relevante werkelijkheid over onze aarde bloot te leggen.
Maia Steinberg is een zangeres, componist, klanktherapeut en community artist geboren in Uruguay. Ze studeerde af in de richting van compositie aan de Escuela Universitaria de Música in Uruguay en behaalde daarna haar master in compositie voor audiovisuele media aan de Université Lyon. Vervolgens studeerde ze af in de richting van klassieke zang aan het Conservatorium in Maastricht en Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Tilburg.
Als maker heeft Maia muziek gecomponeerd voor korte films, games en theaterstukken. Als zangeres heeft ze meegewerkt aan verschillende festivals en operaproducties in zowel Uruguay als Europa. Binnen haar werk zijn community, participatie en maatschappelijke impact belangrijke waarden om te onderzoeken hoe interdisciplinaire performance kunst zowel persoonlijke als gemeenschappelijke transformatie teweeg kan brengen.
Na een periode van meerdere workshops, samen met de zes deelnemers, is Maia nu klaar om Voices of the Earth op de planken te brengen. Tijdens de workshops heeft de groep zich bezig gehouden met het creëren van soundscapes, storytelling en reflectiemomenten. Al deze bevindingen vormen de basis van een interactieve voorstelling waar zowel de invididuele als collectieve relatie die de groep tot de aarde heeft gevisualiseerd wordt.

In Voices of the Earth, creator Maia Steinberg, together with six other performers from diverse backgrounds, explores our human relationship with the Earth. At a time when polarization seems to be increasing, a lingering climate crisis persists, and tensions in our society are rising, taking care of our planet proves to be difficult – or sometimes even impossible.
In this interactive performance, Maia hopes to uncover the complex but relevant reality about our Earth.
Maia Steinberg is a singer, composer, sound therapist, and community artist born in Uruguay. She graduated in composition from the Escuela Universitaria de Música in Uruguay and later obtained her master’s degree in music composition for audiovisual media in the Université Lyon. She later graduated from classical singing in the Maastricht Conservatorium and Fontys School of the Arts in Tilburg.
As a creator, Maia has composed music for short films, games, and theater productions. As a singer, she has participated in various festivals and opera productions in both Uruguay and Europe. Central to her work are values such as community, participation, and social impact, as she explores how interdisciplinary performance art can bring about both personal and collective transformation.
After a period of multiple workshops with the six participants, Maia is now ready to bring Voices of the Earth to the stage. During the workshops, the group focused on creating soundscapes, storytelling, and moments of reflection. All of these findings form the foundation of an interactive performance that visualizes both the individual and collective relationship the group has with the Earth.
