STEMS tested their concept before, through a first edition at Cul de Sac, Tilburg's iconic underground bar. The idea is simple: producers go head-to-head in 1-on-1 battles, playing their hardest beats while an independent jury of industry professionals decides who advances to the next round. 

The Beat Battle takes shape in a bracket-style tournament with 16 participants. Producers can register in advance, after which a selection process fills the brackets. The goal is to showcase talent - getting scouted isn't the main objective, but it just might happen. Don't worry, participating isn't required: everyone's welcome to come watch, listen, hang out and enjoy.

“There aren't many physical events for producers to come and just create. And if there are, producers don't always attend.” says co-founder Ali. “Coming from Tilburg ourselves and seeing the amount of collaboration, creative incubator spots and connection in the city - it was an instant yes to do something like this in Tilburg. Creating a platform for the community we're in, that's our goal, first and foremost.” 

The founders of STEMS often find that the electronic music industry forces producers to think in products. The art of connecting through creativity is often pushed aside. This event is about forming a community of like-minded artists, producers and simply people that want to discover and enjoy new music.
